Secto Design's Kontro pendant lamp has been granted the Best of Design Award 2024 in the lighting category by Schöner Wohnen, Europe's largest interior design magazine. The German publication awarded design products from international manufacturers for the fourth consecutive year. Besides outstanding design, characteristics such as sustainability and functionality were also evaluated.
Kontro was originally designed to complement the iconic Secto Design collection with a pendant lamp that spreads light widely, thanks to its open shape. In this modern interpretation of a chandelier, two wooden shades merge into one while the crossing slats create a shield that prevents the light source from blinding the viewer.
The designer Seppo Koho’s aim is to make lamps that give a harmonious light without the blinding shine coming from visible light bulbs. The light source is hidden in all the Secto Design lamps whereas the light itself is visible in the fascinating patterns it creates on its surroundings. The play of light and shadows together with the warmth of the wood give Seppo Koho’s minimalistic designs a poetic twist that intrigues people all around the world.
All the lamps of the Secto Design lighting collection are sustainably handcrafted from PEFC-certified birch wood in the company's own factory in Heinola, Finland, made to last from generation to generation.
